Soulful HOPE

For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?

Mark 8:36

Have you ever thought about the value of your soul?  God does.  He thinks about the fabulous treasure within you every moment.  While our bodies are physical and experience the five senses, our soul is defined in both Hebrew and Greek languages as “a creature that breaths” and a “living being”.  Our soul is the living, breathing part of us that feels emotions; connected to our “heart”.  Essentially, our soul represents our humanity; making us feel an array of emotions:  sadness and gladness, hate and love… despair and HOPE.  Every time our physical heart beats, God is saying, “I love you. I love you, I love you,” to our treasured and priceless soul.  Our soul full of HOPE.

Yes, your soul is treasured and priceless.  The value of your soul is beyond measure and completely irreplaceable.  One million worlds are not equal to the value of your soul and the HOPE that is generated within.  God, the Great Creator of all we can and can’t see, sent His only Son, Jesus to die in absolute agony to save your soul.  Jesus’ death on the cross paid the ultimate price, made the incomprehensible sacrifice… to set you free from sin’s bondage.  No, He didn’t die to forgive your past sins.  No, He didn’t die to forgive your present sins.  No, He didn’t die to forgive your future sins.  His death forgave your past, present, and future sins.  Now, that’s some soulful HOPE.

Consider this… the world as we know it is in a constant state of decline.  Every single living thing will die someday.  Yes, living things are resilient and can heal upon injury.  However, every living thing will eventually stop breathing, growing, feeling… living.  This world is passing away… in a state of decay.  So, why in the world would you want to hold onto the things of a world that will eventually pass away?  You will never gain a world that has a lifespan, a beginning and an end, by bartering for it with your soul.  While your body will pass away, your soul is here to stay… and you must determine its legacy.  Will your soul experience an eternal reward or an eternal damnation?  The smartest thing you can do is focus less on the earthly and more on the eternal.  The eternal reward in heaven, brimming with everlasting life and infinite HOPE.

If you still aren’t convinced, take a lesson from a king.  Charlemagne the Great was the king of France.  He had riches that would make your head spin… beyond your imagination and dreams.  Years after he died, his buried body was found sitting on a throne, surrounded by all his expensive and glittery things.  His soul went elsewhere while his riches stayed put.  Even if you gain the whole world, you will lose it.  And… in the process of having it, it still won’t satisfy you.  According to Acts 17:28, In Him we live and move and have our being.  God created us for Himself, therefore, you can and will only be filled when you are filled with God, your Creator.

The eternal penalty for our sins has been forgiven with Jesus’ death on the cross.  We must declare our gratefulness in this amazing sacrifice by placing our soul in His HOPE.  We must honor God with our body to do His work.  We must believe in Jesus with our spirit to know Him more each day and to become more like Him daily.  Our HOPE should be solely (soul-y) in Him.

We have a body, soul, and spirit.  Each time our heart beats, God says, “I love you, I love you, I love you.”  He loves you with His whole heart and He wants to spend eternity with you in heaven.  Someone once told me that hell is the absence of God.  Where God is light, love, and peace, hell is darkness, hate, and torment… eternal darkness, hate, and torment… yikes!  Give me light, love, and peace any day over darkness, hate, and torment.  No, I don’t know exactly how eternity works after this life.  But I do know that I would rather spend it WITH a loving God than spend it WITHOUT Him.  Put HOPE in your soul and trust in God to deliver you into an eternity where you do not decay and wither away.  Put HOPE in God to save your soul by placing your trust and belief in His Son.  Now is the perfect time… before it’s too late for your body, spirit, and soul.

For ye are bought with a price: therefore, glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

1 Corinthians 6:20 KJV
