So, you are probably thinking that this post is about the five senses that God blessed us with. Yes, our lives are enriched by the sense of sight, sound, taste, smell, and touch… so much so that if we lose one, another sense becomes heightened to compensate. While I can’t imagine going through life without any of the senses we are most familiar with, I would give up one of those for the sense that I have grown to love. The sense I am referring to is: Wait. For. It… God-sense.
Most people have common sense where they apply judgment based on their basic perception of a situation or facts. Others have book sense (smarts) where their perception of the world is primarily based on what they have gleaned from books. And… there are others who have street smarts (sense) where they view the world based on their experiences from the streets.
Okay, Hope… I’ve heard of common sense. I’ve also heard of book and street smarts. However, I am not familiar with God-sense… what is it? I’m glad you asked. God-sense is wisdom with an eternal perspective, focusing on God’s provision and godly inspiration. While the other senses have an earthly focus and perspective, God-sense is far beyond what we glean from earthly experiences, books, perceptions, facts... God-sense is based on the supernatural and is more powerful than any other sense we will ever use. It is a super sense with powers beyond anything this world has to offer.
While some of us will never have street sense and others may not have the ability to be book smart, God-sense is not based on where we live, the resources we are able to access, or the earthly experiences we encounter. The beauty of God-sense is it’s available to ALL of those who believe in Jesus and have accepted Him as their Savior. The moment we ask Jesus to be our Savior, we are indwelled by His Spirit. This is when our God-sense journey begins. Our eyes “see” all things through a godly lens. Our ears hear God’s voice through His Word and His Spirit. We are touched by others’ stories in a manner that changes our lives deeply. Ultimately, our mind is transformed by God-sense in a way that is far beyond our earthly comprehension. And that is where we find HOPE.
In James 1:5, God’s Word says: “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go. I will guide you with my right eye.” God isn’t going to guide you with His right (versus left) eye. He is going to guide you with His RIGHTeous eyes… eyes that will place you on His path for your life. His wisdom is flawless and wonderfully accurate. Yes, God-sense is infusing God’s wisdom in whatever you experience, wherever you go, and whatever you think. It’s like having access to Google without your smartphone or tablet. By the way, Google has got nothing on God-sense.
You see, God’s ways are not our worldly ways, and His perspective is like no other perspective we will ever have. If common sense was enough to follow Him, there would be no reason for His Spirit to dwell within us, guiding our steps and lighting our path with the eternal light of HOPE. So, if you desire sense… sense that is eternally beyond common sense, book smarts, or street sense, I invite you to give God-sense a go. As you let God into your life, you will be amazed at how your perspective is supernaturally transformed. Your perspective will transition from an earthly focus to an eternal focus… from below to above, from despair to HOPE, bringing the light of heaven to your earthly walk. You will be amazed at the thoughts and HOPE you have as you apply God-sense to your daily experiences while supporting and guiding others. God-sense is wisdom wrapped up in an eternal ribbon of HOPE.
There is nothing common about God-sense. The one book you need for His sense comes from His Word… The Bible: the heart and mind of God. No matter what street you live on, God will light the path He has for your life as we follow His guidance (I refer to as God-dance). Circling back to the senses we are most familiar… our five senses are enhanced, even inspired by God-sense. Yes, as we gaze upon God, we find Him in all the small blessings that He graces us with on a daily basis. There is an eternal HOPE in God-sense.
If God-sense is something you yearn to have, it’s super easy to attain. All you need to do is accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior. You can pray in this manner: Dear Lord Jesus, Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. Please forgive me. Come into my life. I receive You as my Lord and Savior. Now, help me to live for you the rest of this life. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen. If you prayed this (less than 50 word) prayer, you are born again in Jesus and have a new life indwelled with His Spirit. You now have access to Godly inspired wisdom, a wisdom immersed in HOPE… God-sense.
God works all things for good, turning our wilderness experiences into learning experiences for ourselves and others. God is beyond good… He is The Great I Am. He is Emmanuel… God with us. His wisdom and ways are infinitely better than anything we could come up with using common, book, or street sense. God’s plan, His timing, and His God-sense are ALL we need to navigate our time here on earth with HOPE… while bringing God-sense and HOPE to those we touch along the way.
